October 13, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-Min has been awarded the English Premier League Player of the Month prize for September, after a scintillating run of form. The South Korean international scored six goals in just four matches throughout the month to secure the accolade.
Son started September in stunning fashion, netting a hat-trick in a 5-2 victory over Burnley. After a goalless showing against Sheffield United, he finished the month strongly, grabbing 2 goals against Arsenal and striking in the match with Liverpool. His red-hot form has helped propel Spurs to an excellent start to the season.
This is the fourth time the Tottenham forward has won Player of the Month, putting him amongst an elite group of players. Only 6 stars in Premier League history have won the award on more occasions.
Son was delighted with the award, stating: “I only think about how I can help the team. When I do things that are necessary for the team, then I can gain a few things for myself.”
Spurs manager, Ange Postecoglou, recently said Son’s goalscoring ability was one reason he didn’t feel the need to buy a backup for Harry Kane over the summer. Postecoglou praised Son’s versatility and suitability to Spurs’ style of play.
