November 10, (THEWILL) – Nathan Jones has been named the team’s next manager, according to Southampton.
Jones takes over from Ralph Hasenhuttl, their previous manager, who lost his job on Monday, as a result of a string of poor results, which included a weekend 4-1 defeat to Newcastle at home.
Jones was quickly hired as manager, after talks with the Welshman on Wednesday. The Saints had already begun talking to Luton Town about Jones’ availability raising hopes that a deal will be worked out promptly.
In a statement on the appointment, the club said: “Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce it has appointed Nathan Jones, as its new Men’s First Team Manager.
“The 49-year-old joins from Luton Town, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract at St Mary’s, where he will also be joined by First Team Coaches, Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan. Jones takes over ahead of the Premier League trip to Liverpool this weekend, which will be followed by an extended period, in which he can work with the squad during the World Cup break.”
