April 06, (THEWILL) – Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu, could play a key role when Southampton face Manchester City next weekend, according to coach Ruben Selles.
The Nigerian joined the Saints in January from Genk in a deal worth €18 million but has struggled for game time, making only seven appearances since his arrival mostly from the bench. However, Onuachu’s impressive performance against West Ham in the previous game has raised hopes that he may get a chance to start in the upcoming fixture.
Onuachu was a constant threat to West Ham after coming on as a substitute, and Selles believes his height and ability to attract defenders can be a “big weapon” for the team. Speaking about that display, Selles said: “We managed better bringing a player like Paul into the pitch and we need to continue because it can be a big weapon for us if we continue.”
With Southampton battling to avoid relegation, Onuachu’s potential inclusion in the starting eleven could provide a much-needed boost for the struggling team. The 28-year-old Nigerian striker could be the answer to Southampton’s aerial ball strategy against Manchester City.
