May 13, (THEWILL) – Southampton’s turbulent season reached a devastating conclusion on Saturday, as Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu’s club was relegated from the English Premier League, following a 2-0 defeat to Fulham at St Mary’s.
The team, plagued by a lack of cohesion under the guidance of three different managers – Ralph Hasenhuttl, Nathan Jones, and Ruben Selles – have struggled to find their footing throughout the campaign.
With just two matches remaining, Southampton’s highest possible finish is now 19th place. This means that the south coast side will be competing in the Championship for the first time since the 2011/2012 season, when they earned promotion to the top flight by securing the second spot.
