January 27, (THEWILL) – The Spanish Football Federation (mannounced on Monday that Luis de la Fuente will remain at the helm of the national team until EURO 2028, following a contract extension for the 63-year-old manager who recently guided Spain to European Championship glory.
De la Fuente’s tenure, which began with his appointment to the senior team in 2022, has proven remarkably successful.
His achievements include leading Spain to victory in all seven matches of EURO 2024, culminating in a 2-1 triumph over England in the final, as well as capturing the Nations League title in 2023.
“We will give our all to the national team, in all competitions, and hopefully more victories will come. United we are stronger,” De la Fuente stated during Monday’s news conference
The extension ensures De la Fuente’s leadership through multiple major tournaments, including the 2026 World Cup in North America and the subsequent European Championship, which Britain and Ireland will host.
His experience with Spanish football extends back to 2013, when he started coaching youth teams, notably guiding the Under-23 squad to an Olympic silver medal in Tokyo.
Spain’s immediate focus turns to their Nations League quarter-final against the Netherlands, scheduled for March 20.
