January 30, (THEWILL) – Luciano Spalletti, the manager of Napoli, has praised Victor Osimhen for his outstanding performance this season, especially in the game against AS Roma.
As THEWILL reported, the Parthenopeans beat the Yellow and Reds 2-1 at the Diego Maradona Stadium, with Osimhen scoring a well-struck first goal in the 17th minute. Giovanni Simeone, who came on as a substitute, sealed the victory for Napoli.
In post-match comments, Spalletti said: “There is everything in that goal, technical quality, character to juggle the ball between two defenders, then he hit this rocket into the net, as he really has got a cannon for a foot. He has physical strength, accepts the challenge, tracks back to help, is good in the air. He is the complete package.”
This comes despite criticism of diving levelled against Osimhen by Roma manager, Jose Mourinho. However, Mourinho also praised Osimhen, comparing him to Didier Drogba, legendary Cote d’Ivoire forward he managed as coach of Chelsea.
With their win, Napoli increased their lead over the 19 Serie A teams by 13 points and are on their way to winning the Serie A for the first time in over three decades. Osimhen has the chance to become the first-ever African highest goal-scorer in Serie A’s 125-year history.
