October 10, (THEWILL) – Rafael Nadal, one of tennis’ greatest players, has announced his retirement from professional tennis. The Spanish champion confirmed on Thursday that he will conclude his illustrious career after the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga, Spain this November.
The 38-year-old cited persistent physical limitations as a key factor in his decision. “The reality is that it has been some difficult years, these last two especially. I do not think I have been able to play without limitations,” Nadal stated in a video release. His career, spanning over two decades, includes an impressive 22 Grand Slam titles, with 14 victories at the French Open.
The tennis icon’s final Grand Slam appearance occurred earlier this year at Roland Garros, where he suffered a defeat against Alexander Zverev in the first round.
