October 12, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Minister of Youth and Sports Development, John Enoh, held talks with the leadership of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), on Thursday, to discuss reforms aimed at improving the governance and development of football in the country. The meeting was part of the Minister’s series of engagements with national sports federations to drive a common vision for growth.
Enoh emphasised that while his Ministry will not directly run football operations, it has an oversight role to ensure the NFF acts in the best interest of the nation, given football’s immense popularity. He stressed the need to dissect burning issues facing Nigerian football and learn from global best practices.
Key topics discussed included implementing the 10-year football master plan, improving the image of the domestic League, and amending NFF statutes within a year. The Minister urged all stakeholders to work together to foster development across all facets of Nigerian football.
“There should be an expansion of the NFFS Congress to accommodate other stakeholders. NFFS Congress should be such that it is proportionally representative enough of all interests for the good of the sport”, Enoh also remarked.
The Minister requested the NFF submit an action plan with timelines leading to amended statutes within one year. He emphasized the need for progress to bring this process to a positive conclusion.
