February 19, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur claimed a hard-fought victory over West Ham in a thrilling London derby, securing a place in the top four of the English Premier League with two second-half goals.
The Hammers missed a golden opportunity to take the lead in the first minute and Spurs managed to keep them at bay and eventually broke the deadlock just before the hour mark.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s pass through the lines found the run of Ben Davies, who squared for Emerson Royal to slot past Fabianski with ease. Spurs added a second after skipper, Harry Kane, managed to wrestle the ball off of a sleeping Angelo Ogbonna and quickly slipped through substitute Son Heung-min, who picked out the far corner.
Despite some nervy moments, Spurs managed to keep their neighbours at arm’s length for the rest of the afternoon, securing three valuable points that saw them in fourth place one point clear of Newcastle. Meanwhile, West Ham ended the weekend mired in the bottom three after several results elsewhere went against them.
Both teams will be in EPL action again next weekend, with West Ham hosting Nottingham Forest in a crucial clash at the bottom of the table, while Spurs have another London derby at home to out-of-form Chelsea.
