January 07, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur have suffered an injury blow ahead of a crucial run of games, with Antonio Conte stating that Heung-min Son will be out until the end of the month.
During Wednesday’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea in the EFL Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at Stamford Bridge, Son suffered a muscle strain in his leg.
Spurs have five games left until the end of the month, including a visit from League One Morecambe in the FA Cup third round on Sunday and a second leg against Chelsea on Wednesday night. They also have league matches against London rivals Arsenal, and then Leicester and Chelsea before the end of the month.
Conte explained: “The day after [the Chelsea game], he felt a bit of pain in his muscle, in his leg.
“He had a scan and now we have to make the right evaluation from the doctors. He has an injury. I don’t know, but probably he will stay without training sessions until the end of this cycle, for the international break.”
Son is expected to be out for two weeks, according to Conte in a separate interview with Spurs TV.
The Spurs manager intends to rest Harry Kane and rotate his squad against the Shrimps this weekend, but it is unknown who will fill in up top, with Steven Bergwijn, who Conte had previously hailed as Kane’s understudy, also sidelined.
