February 11, (THEWILL) — Tottenham Hotspur have dismissed head coach, Thomas Frank, following a dismal run of form that has left the club battling relegation. The north London side sit 14th in the English Premier League, five points above the drop zone, after winning just two of their last 17 league matches. Frank’s final game in charge was Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United, extending their winless run to eight consecutive league fixtures.
The Danish manager arrived in June on a three-year deal, replacing Ange Postecoglou after Spurs endured their worst EPL campaign. The club finished 17th last term with 38 points, losing 22 of 38 games, though they did claim the UEFA Europa League title and their first silverware since 2008. Despite hopes of improvement, Frank oversaw only six victories in 16 league outings this season, including heavy defeats to Arsenal and Manchester United.
Supporters made their frustration clear after recent poor results, jeering Frank following losses to West Ham and Newcastle. The club managed back-to-back 2-2 draws with Burnley and Manchester City around UEFA Champions League wins, where they finished fourth in the league phase and reached the last-16 stage. However, domestic form has remained catastrophic, with Spurs also exiting the FA Cup to Aston Villa.
Tottenham invested heavily before the season, bringing in Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus for a combined £114.1 million, alongside loan deals for Joao Palhinha and Randal Kolo Muani. Midfielder Conor Gallagher and left-back Souza joined during the winter window. Key injuries have compounded difficulties, with James Maddison suffering an ACL tear just before the campaign began and Dejan Kulusevski yet to feature due to a knee problem.
Frank previously spent seven years at Brentford, earning promotion to the top flight for the first time in the club’s history and maintaining four consecutive seasons without relegation. Tottenham are now working through contingency plans to appoint his successor, with survival the immediate priority for a club in genuine danger of dropping out of the EPL.
