November 09, (THEWILL) –Â On Monday night, Warriors star Stephen Curry had his first 50-point game of the NBA season, leading Golden State Warriors to a 127-113 victory over the Atlanta Hawks to improve to 9-1.
Curry also added 10 assists, seven rebounds, three steals, and a block to his stat line, while only committing two turnovers.
Curry, who is 33 years old, became the 18th player in NBA history to score 50 points and ten assists in a game. Wilt Chamberlain owned the previous record, which he established at the age of 31 in 1968 with a 53-point, 32-rebound, 14-assist performance.
Curry made all 13 of his free throws and 9 of 19 3-point attempts. Golden State won their fifth game in a row, with no other Warrior scoring more than 16 points.
Curry’s 10 assists went smoothly for the Warriors, as did his 50 points, which were mostly in line with the Warriors’ customary Steph-centric attack. Curry only needed 28 shots to reach that milestone.
He went to the free-throw line 13 times and made every single one of them. He has 50 of 51 free throws so far this season.
The Warriors have benefited from an easy and home-heavy schedule in the absence of Klay Thompson and James Wiseman. They have already played the Thunder twice, the Rockets once, the Pelicans once, and the Kings once, with impressive results.
Even as they wait for further reinforcements, the Warriors have won five straight games by margins of 21, 22, 41, 13, and now 14, thanks to a blossoming Jordan Poole and the savvy bargain signings of Otto Porter, Andre Iguodala, and Nemanja Bjelica. Curry, in this form, has the potential to continue to be the difference in the team.
