December 11, (THEWILL) — Rivers United came from behind to defeat Plateau United 2-1 in a Nigeria Premier Football League fixture at the New Jos Stadium on Saturday. The visitors maintained their impressive form with an eighth consecutive match without defeat, sealing victory through a stoppage-time goal, during matchday 14 of the 2025/2026 campaign.

Nenrot Silas put the hosts ahead in the 20th minute, exploiting a defensive error to give Plateau United a first-half advantage. Rivers United controlled 58 per cent of possession before the interval but managed only three attempts on target, unable to break down a disciplined home defence.

Boluwaji Sholumade equalised seven minutes into the second half with a composed finish from distance, restoring parity and shifting momentum towards the visitors. Tensions rose throughout the period, with Temple Emekayi and Ani Ozomena receiving yellow cards, whilst both managers introduced substitutions in search of a breakthrough.

The decisive strike arrived in the 90th minute plus three additional minutes when Rivers United capitalised on a rapid counter-attack. Plateau United pressed for a late equaliser but the visitors’ goalkeeper produced vital stops to protect the lead through six minutes of added time.

The victory lifts Rivers United to joint top of the NPFL table on 30 points, level with Nasarawa United, even on goal difference, but with a game in hand. Plateau United remain in 17th position on 18 points, facing mounting concerns over relegation in the current campaign.
