July 27, (THEWILL) – Luis Suarez has gone back to his roots with the disclosure that he has pre-signed a contract to join Uruguay’s Club Nacional de Football this summer.
The 35-year-old striker began his professional career in 2005 with Nacional, where he made 34 appearances and scored 12 goals before transferring to FC Groningen of the Netherlands.
Before his final contract at a European club (Atletico Madrid) ended at the conclusion of the 2021/2022 season, Suarez had trophy-laden years at Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid, winning seven league titles and the UEFA Champions League.
“I have now reached a pre-agreement in order to join Nacional, it was impossible for me to say no to this opportunity,” the Uruguayan wrote on Twitter as he announced his return to Nacional and South American football. “I hope final details will be resolved soon in order to complete the deal officially.”
The striker is about to return to Uruguay’s most illustrious football team, which has won an incredible 48 league titles and three Copa Libertadores. Nacional placed second in the Primera Division last year, but after seven games this year, they are now leading Group B.
