SAN FRANCISCO, January 26, (THEWILL) – As part of efforts to arrest the incessant Muslim, Christian conflicts in Nigeria, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-general of the Jamatul Nasri Islam, JNI, His Eminences, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, and the President of the Christian Council of Nigeria, CCN, Emmanuel Udofia, have inaugurated an interfaith centre for documentation, peace and reconciliation.
The joint inauguration, which took place yesterday in Kaduna, followed a recommendation of the World Council of Churches, WCC, and the Royal Ahl AL-Bayt Foundation, RAABF. The centre which would be jointly ran by Muslims and Christians for the documentation of truth, promotion of peace and reconciliation.
The centre will equally serve as a documentation centre for peace and reconciliation which would address issues of trauma, conflict and peace building among many other sundry matters. It has two ceremonial presidents namely Prince Ghazzi, president, Royal Aal Al-bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, AL-RABIIT, and the secretary general of the WCC.
Two national ceremonial chairmen of the centre are the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, and the CCN President, Emmanuel Udofia. The National Governing Board, NGB, of the centre as inaugurated include, Prof. D.O.S Noibin, Rev. Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Wushishi, Dr. Khalid. Abubakar. Aliyu and His Eminence, Cardinal John Onaiyekan.
Others are Dr. Atiku Balarebe Zawiya Gusau, Mrs Uzoaku Juliana Williams, Rt. Rev Timothy Yahaya and Hajiya Aishat Ahmed Hassan.
Speaking shortly after the inauguration of the board, the sultan and the CCN President reiterated that the centre would present a platform for peaceful and religious coexistence.
