October 07, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s captain, Ahmed Musa, has hinted that the Super Eagles will not drop a point out of the six at stake in the matches scheduled for Lagos on Thursday and Douala, Cameroon on Sunday in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Musa said on Wednesday that this was the goal of every member of the Super Eagles’ camp, which he and his teammates were motivated to achieve on Sunday in order to ensure the team’s advancement to the knockout stage.
In a Zoom conference call before Thursday’s tie in Lagos, Musa stressed this point: “We have a mission, which is to collect all the six points from the two matches and make things easier for ourselves in the last two matches against Liberia and Cape Verde. Then, we can focus on the knockout matches of March next year.”
The CAR will host the fixture in Cameroon’s coastal city of Douala after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ruled that no football pitch in their country was fit and proper for international matches.
Following the late arrival of goalkeeper Maduka Okoye on Tuesday evening, as THEWILL reported, all 23 players invited by head coach Gernot Rohr are now in camp at the Eko Hotels & Suites on Victoria Island.
Thursday’s match will begin at 5 pm local time, with CAF allowing only 5,000 fans inside the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
The Super Eagles will thereafter head over Douala on Saturday morning for a game that begins at 2 pm Nigerian time on Sunday, and will return to Abuja immediately afterward.
