October 01, (THEWILL) – Lautaro Martinez was the hero for Inter Milan on Saturday, coming off the bench to score an incredible four goals in just 23 minutes in their 4-0 Serie A victory away at struggling Salernitana.

The Argentine striker was introduced in the 55th minute with the score still 0-0. Inter had struggled to break down a determined Salernitana defence up to that point, despite dominating possession. Fortunately, Martinez’s entrance proved pivotal, as he broke the deadlock just after the hour mark with a delicate dinked finish.

Martinez then doubled Inter’s lead in the 77th minute, slamming home after great work down the left from Nicolo Barella. Salernitana’s task became even harder shortly after as Martinez stepped up to convert a penalty for his hat-trick on 85 minutes.

Incredibly, the frontman was still not done there, adding a fourth in stoppage time after being teed up by Carlos Augusto. It capped off a remarkable impact display from the bench by Martinez, taking his goal tally for the season to eight.

The emphatic victory lifts Inter back to the top of the Serie A table above city rivals AC Milan, who had gone top briefly after beating Lazio on Saturday. For struggling Salernitana, it leaves them down in 19th place with no win from seven games so far.
