July 31, (THEWILL) – World number one Iga Swiatek progressed to the Olympic tennis singles semi-finals on Wednesday, overcoming a challenge from American Danielle Collins.
The match, played in hot and humid conditions at Roland Garros, ended with Collins retiring in the deciding set, giving Swiatek a 6-1 2-6 4-1 victory.
The 23-year-old Polish player, favoured for gold due to her four French Open titles, faced a tough contest against the eighth-seeded Collins.
