December 05, (THEWILL) – Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has refuted claims that there is unrest in the Old Trafford dressing room. This comes after several journalists were barred from attending a recent press conference.
Allegations emerged following the weekend loss to Newcastle that players were questioning Ten Hag’s tactics. Four journalists from major outlets were then denied access to the pre-match press event ahead of the upcoming Chelsea clash. United stated this was in response to not being given a chance to respond to the initial allegations.
When asked by attending journalists, Ten Hag firmly denied the rumours. “Of course, in every team, there are always players who are not playing, or playing less, who are less happy. In some circumstances you need that, they have to wait for their chance,” he responded. The manager cited recent attacking performances as proof the squad supports his methods.
“I always listen to my players and I always give them opportunities to tell. If the players have a different opinion, of course, I will listen,” Ten Hag added. “But they haven’t told me…or maybe one or two. But it is about in general. The majority want to play like this – proactive, dynamic, brave; that is what they want.”
Ten Hag currently retains the full support of the United hierarchy and incoming investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The focus is on bringing stability and changing the club’s approach to transfers.
