May 24, (THEWILL) – In preparation for the upcoming clash against Chelsea, Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, expressed optimism about the potential return of Marcus Rashford.
The prolific forward has missed the team’s last two fixtures due to a leg injury and illness but has resumed training this week. To answer questions about Rashford’s availability, Ten Hag stated: “It looks like (it). Yesterday, he returned to training, he looks quite fit but we have to see today what is the outcome of the training, how did we recover and then we will make our choices.”
Rashford’s absence in recent matches against Wolves and Bournemouth brought attention to United’s limited depth in the forward positions. The team relied on Anthony Martial, who was given a rare start but left the field prematurely, sparking speculation about his future with the club. Ten Hag acknowledged the importance of availability, noting: “If you are not available, you can’t score. When he was available, we played better, the team is winning games, he’s also scoring goals, but he has to be available.”
Securing a top-four position in the English Premier League and reclaiming a spot in the UEFA Champions League is a significant objective for Manchester United, achievable with a victory or even a draw against Chelsea. Ten Hag reiterated his team’s determination to win every game and play dominant football.
He also recognised that judgment would be passed on the team’s performance but expressed confidence in their progress, adding: “We believe we are in the right direction, but it can always be better because good is not good enough.”
