July 23, (THEWILL) – Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has stated that Manchester United’s preseason 2-2 draw with Aston Villa in Australia, provides them valuable experience for the upcoming season. Steven Gerrard’s team mounted a successful comeback in the second half.
With a volley in the first half, Jadon Sancho scored his third goal in four preseason games so far and an own-goal gave United a two-goal lead. However, Leon Bailey pulled one back for Villa in the second half, before Calum Chambers scored the equaliser in stoppage time.
The Red Devils have won each of their previous three preseason games against Premier League opponents, but Ten Hag’s flawless run came to an end with the draw. However, the Norwegian manager is looking at the bright side and thinks the loss can help United prepare for the coming campaign.
He said post-match: “First half, it was a decent performance, second half, we came back out of the dressing room and we had to control the game but we gave it away. That is no good, so that is a lesson. From the players, the team, I think there has been a lot of progress. There’s been some positive aspects.
“In the end there was a setback but that is also a part of the season because a season is not always getting up, you will also have setbacks that you have to deal with.”
