December 03, (THEWILL) – Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has revealed plans for clear-the-air talks with forward, Marcus Rashford, after the England international once again failed to make an impact during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United.
Rashford was substituted on the hour mark at St. James’ Park, marking another lacklustre performance this term from a player who inked a lucrative new contract over the summer on the back of scoring 30 goals across all competitions last season. The striker has managed just two strikes this campaign.
“I will talk to him and not the media,” remarked Ten Hag after the Newcastle match. “I knew this issue was coming up and Marcus is investing a lot. He will return to his form, he will recover and he gets all our support.”
Teammate, Harry Maguire, echoed the manager’s supportive stance saying: “Marcus had an unbelievable season last season. This season, it hasn’t clicked for him. He’s working hard. Everyone in that dressing room knows what he’s about.”
Ten Hag remained adamant the goals will soon flow again for Rashford and fellow forward, Anthony Martial, who was also singled out for criticism from the Dutch coach during the first half of Saturday’s game. “You always want to play the perfect game, but we know we have to pick it up,” conceded Ten Hag.
