August 13, (THEWILL) – Coming off the title-winning season, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, the brother of the Most Valuable Player of last season, Giannis Antetokounmpo, has agreed to a new two-year deal with the Milwaukee Bucks that includes a player option in the second year.
The 29-year-old played an inspiring season with 57 games to see Milwaukee’s race to the championship trophy become a reality in the 2021 campaign. Antetokounmpo averaged 2.9 points per game and 2.2 rebounds to cap his second season with the Bucks with his brother leading the charge.
Antetokounmpo also appeared in 13 playoff games that the COVID-19 forced to be moved from its usual time in mid-April to May 22, 2021. It ended with the 2021 NBA Finals in July that the Bucks won as THEWILL reported.
That NBA title was a first win for the Bucks since 1971. It came in an amazing Game 6, that the younger Antetokounmpo, Giannis, took complete and total control of with 50 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks, to lead Milwaukee to a 105-98 triumph over the Phoenix Suns.
The pair of Antetokounmpo brothers are two of five sons born to Nigerian parents Charles and Veronica Detokunbo, who moved to Athens, Greece from Lagos in 1993, where they gave birth and raised their children.
Although not as celebrated as Giannis, Thanasis holds his own in the Bucks’ team.
Listed at 6 feet 6 inches and 219 pounds, he plays the small forward and power forward positions in the team and will continue to do so for another two years with his latest deal.
