May 21, (THEWILL) — The Nigeria Police Force has disclaimed a purported “AFRIPOL 2026” programme being circulated online, stressing that the initiative was neither approved nor authorized by the Force.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the police described the programme as unauthorized and cautioned members of the public and corporate organisations against engaging with or sponsoring the event.
The Force said it was compelled to react following the circulation of promotional materials linking the programme to the police hierarchy and the office of the Inspector-General of Police.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to state categorically that it did not approve, endorse, or authorize the purported ‘AFRIPOL 2026’ programme currently being circulated online,” the statement read.
The police further condemned what it described as the unlawful use of the name “AFRIPOL”, noting that AFRIPOL is an official continental policing mechanism established under the framework of the African Union and not a platform for private or unauthorised activities.
According to the statement, the leadership of the Force neither approved the use of the image of the Inspector-General of Police nor authorized the deployment of the official logo and identity of the Nigeria Police Force in relation to the programme.
The police warned that any attempt to exploit the identity of the Force or AFRIPOL for personal, commercial, or fraudulent purposes would not be tolerated.
It urged Nigerians, particularly corporate organisations and prospective sponsors, to disregard the publication entirely and avoid making payments, commitments, or any form of engagement connected to the event.
