December 17, (THEWILL) – Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Everton in the Premier League on Thursday night was a “freak result”, according to Thomas Tuchel. He said he would be more concerned if his team was performing poorly.

Chelsea has dropped points for the fourth time in seven Premier League games, allowing Manchester City and Liverpool to leapfrog them and take a slight lead at the top of the table; City now leads by four points following this week’s results.

Chelsea took the lead against Everton at Stamford Bridge midway through the second half, only for youngster Jarrad Branthwaite to equalise shortly afterwards, with his first Everton goal.

Chelsea dominated the game and battered Everton’s goal with shots, but only managed to earn a single point.

But, Tuchel was stoic in his reaction: “It was a freak result for this type of match. We were strong enough and I’m not sure right now why we get punished. We see teams concede more chances than we do but we only have a draw.”

The German believes that a large list of absentees is a huge part of the problem, citing the absence of Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, and Kai Havertz against Everton.

“I am concerned we have too many players out; six or seven players. I think this in the moment is the problem, one of the key problems. In central midfield, for eight weeks. We had our strikers out and that was the case for four weeks with Timo and Romelu out.

“I would be more concerned if we were totally out of form, concede the first goal and then struggle to come back. It would be easier to analyse. I don’t think it’s too easy to analyse our situation,” Tuchel explained.
