March 13, (THEWILL) –Â The Golden State Warriors trounced the Milwaukee Bucks 122-109 on Saturday night, with Klay Thompson scoring a season-high 38 points.
The Warriors guard played 34 minutes and made 15 of 24 field goals, including eight 3-pointers.
The 32-year-old returned to the NBA this season after undergoing surgery in 2020 for a torn Achilles tendon. After suffering a ruptured left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals, he played his first game in 941 days on January 9.
Thompson got off to a hot start, scoring 21 points (8-12 from the field, 5-8 from three) to lead the Warriors to a 67-58 halftime lead. Thompson also had three rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a block.
When Steph Curry did not have the ball, Milwaukee made an interesting strategic decision to face-guard him all the way up to the half-court line. Curry was forced to choose between scratching and clawing to attempt to play his normal game, or dragging his defender out to near half-court, allowing his teammates to play four-on-four with plenty of room.
Curry only attempted seven field goals, his lowest total of the season, but he had eight assists, which allowed Thompson and Jordan Poole to take control of the game.
The Warriors are on a three-game winning streak after defeating the defending NBA champs. Golden State is in third position in the Western Conference with a record of 46-22.
Milwaukee is in second position in the Eastern Conference with a 42-26 record.
