BEVERLY HILLS, December 01, (THEWILL) – The police in Bayelsa have confirmed the arrest of five members of the All Progressive Congress, APC, for allegedly trailing the convoy of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the state.
While debunking reports in a section of the media that some ex-militants yesterday attacked the convoy of the immediate past president, the command explained that those who trailed the convoy were actually youths who mistook the convoy for that of one of the gubernatorial candidates.
Some online medium had reported that Jonathan was trailed by suspected ex-militants who were said to be working for the All Progressive Congress, APC, in the state. The men, who were reported to have driven into a short motorcade of the former President from the Julius Berger bridge area of Yenagoa, trailed and chased the convoy to the entrance of the private residence of the former President at the Kpansia suburb of the state capital.
It was right there that the thugs were purportedly overpowered and arrested by the security operatives attached to the former President.
But speaking on the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Bayelsa State, Asimin Butswat clarified that the suspects were not ex militants as rumoured but were persons who mistakenly followed the former President convoy thinking it was that of their principal.
According to him, “Our preliminary investigation showed that these were not ex-militants but boys who mistook the former President ‘s convoy for their principal.”
