February 12, (THEWILL) – Leicester’s attempts to bind Youri Tielemans to a new deal are being continually rejected by the player.
Tielemans turned down Leicester’s offer of a new contract in October, with interest from some of the Premier League’s best teams, and his stance has not changed especially with the club’s lacklustre first half of the season.
The 24-year-old and his representatives have once again told Leicester that they are not ready to commit long-term, and with his current contract ending in less than 18 months, the Foxes will have to make a huge choice this summer.
Leicester’s management has managed to grasp that one of their treasured assets may have to be sold, while manager Brendan Rodgers, who is desperate to keep Tielemans, is hoping that a huge summer buying spree will persuade him to stay. That appears to be unlikely at the moment.
Tielemans is attracting a lot of attention, with as many as five Premier League clubs keeping an eye on him. Manchester United has long been a fan of the Belgian, as have Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham United, and Newcastle United.
On the continent, there is also much interest, with Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla among those interested in a transfer.
Despite the fact that Tielemans was purchased for roughly £32 million from Monaco two and a half years ago, Leicester will not allow him to leave on the cheap, and could demand as much as £40 million despite the fact that his contract is just two and a half years old.
