May 7, (THEWILL)- The Minnesota Timberwolves seized a commanding 2-0 lead in their playoff series against the Denver Nuggets with a dominant defensive performance, clinching a 106-80 victory on Monday.
This victory highlighted the Timberwolves’ suffocating defence, which disrupted the reigning NBA champions throughout the game. As the series moves to Minneapolis for Game 3 on Friday, the Timberwolves aim to maintain their momentum.
Leading the charge for the Timberwolves were Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards, who each contributed 27 points. However, it was Minnesota’s collective defensive effort that stood out, with the team tallying 11 steals and 12 blocks compared to Denver’s six steals and five blocks. Notably, the Timberwolves achieved this defensive feat without Rudy Gobert, a key defensive player who was absent from the game following the birth of his son earlier that day.
The Nuggets, on the other hand, faced challenges beyond the Timberwolves’ defence. Star point guard Jamal Murray’s potential suspension looms after he was caught throwing a heat pack onto the court during the game. Denver struggled to find their rhythm, falling behind early and failing to recover.
