December 30, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Rotimi Iseoluwa Oyedepo, SAN, as the new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the Federal Ministry of Justice.
The appointment followed the formal transfer of Oyedepo’s service from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the mainstream Federal Civil Service in the public interest.
A statement issued on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, by the State House Director of Information & Public Relations, Abiodun Oladunjoye, confirmed that the appointment was finalized in a letter dated December 23, signed by Omolabake Mafe on behalf of the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission.
Oyedepo replaces Abubakar Babadoko, who is set to retire on December 31, 2025, after completing the mandatory eight-year tenure as a director.
A 2007 Law graduate from the University of Ilorin, Oyedepo was called to the Bar in 2008. He brings over 15 years of extensive experience in prosecuting complex economic and financial crimes.
During his tenure at the EFCC, he headed the Monitoring Unit and was a key member of the Federal Government’s legal team in the landmark $11 billion arbitration case between Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
His professional record earned him several accolades, including EFCC Outstanding Staff of the Year in 2014 and Best Financial Crimes Prosecutor in 2019.
In 2023, he was previously appointed as a Special Assistant to the President on Financial Crimes and Public Prosecution Compliance, working under the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN.
As Director of Public Prosecutions, Oyedepo is expected to strengthen the Federal Government’s prosecutorial capacity, reduce the current heavy reliance on external legal counsel, and ensure greater coherence in the government’s legal strategies.
