April 08, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has commissioned the Opebi–Mende–Ojota Link Bridge in Lagos, a landmark infrastructure project set to significantly improve traffic flow and connectivity across key commercial and residential corridors in the state.
The President, represented at the ceremony by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, formally inaugurated the bridge, describing it as a vital addition to Nigeria’s urban transport infrastructure and a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to easing the daily challenges faced by commuters.
Delivered under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the project forms a critical component of the Lagos State Government’s THEMES+ development agenda, which prioritises traffic management, infrastructure renewal, and economic growth.
The bridge, which reportedly cost several billions of naira, reflects the scale and ambition of ongoing efforts to modernise the state’s transport network.
The project was executed by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, a leading indigenous construction firm with a long-standing track record in delivering major infrastructure projects nationwide.
Its completion within an accelerated timeframe of about 18 to 24 months highlights the administration’s focus on the timely delivery of critical projects.
Strategically designed, the Opebi–Mende–Ojota Link Bridge provides an alternative route for motorists navigating some of Lagos’ most congested areas, including Toyin Street, Allen Avenue, and Opebi.
By creating a direct connection to Ojota, Maryland, and other parts of Ikeja, the bridge is expected to drastically reduce travel time, ease pressure on existing roads, and enhance mobility across the metropolis.
Officials at the commissioning emphasised the project’s economic significance, noting that improved connectivity will facilitate the efficient movement of goods and people, boost commercial activities, and enhance productivity across key business districts.
The bridge is also expected to support small and medium-scale enterprises by reducing logistics costs and improving access to markets.
The commissioning is part of a broader infrastructure expansion drive that has seen Lagos deliver several transformative projects in recent years.
These include the Lekki Deep Sea Port and the Blue and Red Lines of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit, alongside numerous road rehabilitation and expansion initiatives across the state.
The Lagos State Government has consistently maintained that sustained investment in transport infrastructure is essential to building a modern, resilient, and globally competitive megacity capable of supporting its rapidly growing population.
