January 04, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has ordered the military, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Department of State Services (DSS) to hunt down and apprehend the terrorists responsible for the recent massacre at the Kasuwan Daji community in the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The President also directed security agencies to urgently rescue the dozens of villagers, including women and children, who were abducted during the deadly assault on Saturday evening, January 3, 2026.
The directives were contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the attackers are suspected to be terrorists fleeing from Sokoto and Zamfara states following a United States military airstrike conducted on Christmas Eve.
The gunmen reportedly stormed the Kasuwan Daji market, opening fire on residents and setting shops and houses ablaze.
Condemning the killings—which local reports estimate have claimed between 30 and 42 lives—the President described the incident as a direct challenge to Nigeria’s resolve.
He expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and the government of Niger State.
“These terrorists have tested the resolve of our country and its people. They must, therefore, face the full consequences of their criminal actions,” the President said.
“No matter who they are or what their intent is, they must be hunted down. They, and all those who aid, abet, or enable them in any form, will be caught and brought to justice.”
Tinubu assured residents that security agencies have been mandated to intensify operations in vulnerable communities, particularly those near the National Park Forest along the Kabe district, which serves as a hideout for criminal elements.
He further called on Nigerians to remain united, warning against divisive rhetoric that could undermine national cohesion.
“These times demand our humanity. We must stand together as one people and confront these monsters in unison,” the President added.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to reclaiming the peace and security of the affected communities.
