Napoli

January 04, (THEWILL) — A dominant display at Stadio Olimpico on Sunday saw Antonio Conte’s Napoli defeat Lazio 2-0 to move within a single point of Serie A leaders AC Milan.

Matteo Politano provided both assists in a match marred by three red cards during a frantic finale.

The opening goal arrived in the 13th minute when Leonardo Spinazzola volleyed home Politano’s excellent delivery.

The visitors doubled their advantage before the interval through Amir Rrahmani, who headed in from Politano’s free-kick in the 32nd minute.

Eljif Elmas had earlier struck the woodwork and later squandered a fine opportunity with a wayward header.

Lazio failed to register a single shot on target throughout the contest and offered minimal threat to the visiting defence.

The home side’s lacklustre performance allowed Conte’s team to control the match with minimal resistance.

The final 15 minutes descended into chaos with three dismissals.

Tijjani Noslin collected a second yellow card for a challenge on Alessandro Buongiorno, whilst Adam Marusic and Pasquale Mazzocchi were both sent off following an altercation.

Mateo Guendouzi hit the crossbar late on, but the outcome was never in doubt.

The victory is a fourth consecutive win across all competitions for the visitors, who have not conceded during that run.

The result maintains their pursuit of AC Milan at the top of the table and extends their impressive defensive sequence under Conte.
