May 07, (THEWILL) – The Director-General of the Bola Tinubu Support Groups Management Council, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
“I have done my best for APC. It’s time to move on. I will announce my new political party within the next 24 hours Insha Allah. I will make a formal statement in due course”, he announced in a tweet on Saturday.
However, sources within the campaign Council of Bola Tinubu Support Group, hinted that plans are already perfected for Jibrin to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
THEWILL reports that the announcement of Jibrin’s exit from the APC, may be an early indication that Presidential hopeful, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, may also dump the ruling party, in the event that he does not emerge as its presidential candidate in the forthcoming primary election.
A top party source familiar with the development told THEWILL, that the National chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, had earlier met with Tinubu where he was intimated with President Muhammadu Buhari’s stiff opposition to his presidential ambition.
According to insider sources, Tinubu, who does not want to be caught off guard during the APC primaries, is allegedly joining forces with leaders of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), for a smooth sail to the party if the primaries do not go his way.
An SDP stalwart, confirmed that, “Tinubu approached the party. We are in talks with him, and his coming to our party will help us strengthen the party.”
Also Jibrin’s exit from the APC came exactly one month after he warned that the party may invite doom upon itself, if it does not give its 2023 presidential ticket to an aspirant with mass appeal, in particular reference to former Lagos governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
“I have said it repeatedly how the APC manages its upcoming primaries at every level (states and national), including Presidential will determine [the] survival of the party.
“Anything short of allowing the choice of the people to prevail in the primaries will spell DOOM for the party!” Jibrin had warned in April.
