September 20, (THEWILL) – North London club, Tottenham Hotspur, are eager to agree a new long-term contract with team captain, Son Heung-min.
The South Korea international has been with Spurs since 2015 and is now one of the team’s most experienced players. Talks over fresh terms are said to be at an advanced stage, with the expectation being that a deal will be finalised before Christmas. Son still has 18 months remaining on his current contract but the club want to reward him for his excellent form.
The 31-year-old has made a strong start to the new season under new manager Ange Postecoglou, scoring a hat-trick in September’s 5-2 rout of Burnley. Postecoglou opted to make Son club captain over the summer and the pair have built up a close relationship.
Speaking this week, Postecoglou praised Son’s leadership qualities and the example he sets for the younger players in the Tottenham squad. The manager described the forward as a “brilliant human being” who is hugely respected by teammates and opponents alike.
With a number of players in their early 20s featuring regularly this term, Postecoglou believes Son’s experience and character are invaluable assets. The manager says his captain has embraced the role and helped foster an excellent team spirit and negotiations about a new contract are timely.
