April 6, (THEWILL)- A Turkish Super League club, Trabzonspor, has had its spectator ban reduced from six matches to four following an appeal to the Turkish Football Federation (TFF). The club faced the punishment after their supporters stormed the pitch and clashed with players from Fenerbahce.
The TFF’s arbitration board also decreased Trabzonspor’s fine from 3,000,000 to 448,000 Turkish Lira, approximately $14,000. The board upheld one-match suspensions given to Fenerbahce players Irfan Can Egribayat and Jayden Quinn Oosterwolde for their involvement in the brawl last month, which was the latest in a series of incidents plaguing the Turkish Super League this season.
Fenerbahce had initially threatened to leave the league in response to the incident, but their members ultimately voted against the proposal, leading the club to remain in the competition.
The pitch invasion and subsequent violence have highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the Turkish Super League, which has seen a number of high-profile incidents this season. The reduced ban and fine for Trabzonspor, however, suggest a willingness by the TFF to find a balanced approach to addressing these issues.
