July 10, (THEWILL) — Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 223 Light Battalion, Zuru, have repelled a large-scale bandit attack on Ribah, a community in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The Kebbi State Government, in a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Security, AbdulRahman Zagga, said the attempted invasion occurred on Wednesday and involved over 400 armed bandits.
According to the statement, a fierce gun battle ensued between the troops and the assailants, leading to the neutralisation of several bandits.
“While some of the attackers managed to retrieve the bodies of their fallen comrades, others were abandoned at the scene alongside a cache of recovered weapons,” Zagga stated.
He commended the courage and resilience of the Nigerian Army, as well as the swift intervention of the Nigerian Air Force, whose fighter jet provided critical air support during the operation.
The state government reassured residents of its continued collaboration with security agencies to ensure peace and stability across Kebbi.
