February 19, (THEWILL) -Serie A side Salernitana, the club of Nigerian defender, William Troost-Ekong, has announced that the vice-captain of the Nigerian national team will miss two weeks of action due to an injury.
Troost-Ekong suffered a fracture of the tibial plateau following a blunt trauma, according to the club statement. This injury comes ahead of Nigeria’s clash against Guinea-Bissau in the TotalEnergies 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Troost-Ekong is a key member of the Super Eagles and the news of his injury will be significant to the team’s lineup in the qualifying series for the AFCON. The defender has 51 caps and was an integral part of Nigeria’s team that won the bronze medal at the 2019 AFCON.
In addition to Troost-Ekong’s injury, Salernitana also announced that Senegal international, Boulaye Dia, is still undergoing rehabilitation for an injury he suffered during the last Hellas Verona – Salernitana championship match.
Dia, who is Salernitana’s top scorer in Serie A with eight goals this term, is uncertain whether he will be fit for Senegal’s AFCON qualifiers against Mozambique next month.
