February 11, (THEWILL) – On Friday, Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, arrived in Abu Dhabi ahead of Saturday’s Club World Cup final.
The 48-year-old had tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, forcing him to miss the London club’s FA Cup triumph over Plymouth and the opening of their Club World Cup campaign in the United Arab Emirates.
If he passes a COVID-19 test before Saturday’s game, the German gaffer intends to be back in the dugout for Chelsea’s final against Palmeiras, the South American champions.
As THEWILL reported, Chelsea defeated Al-Hilal 1-0 on Wednesday, thanks to a strike from Romelu Lukaku. The team was led by assistant manager Zsolt Low, with help from sporting director Petr Cech and first-team coach Arno Michels.
After their second triumph in Europe, winning the UEFA Champions League last season, the west London team is looking to win the competition for the first time.
They have never won the Club World Cup, though they came close in 2012 before going down 1-0 to Corinthians of Brazil in the final in Yokohama.
