August 14, (THEWILL) – At the conclusion of Chelsea’s thrilling 2-2 tie with Tottenham Hotspur, Thomas Tuchel spoke about the friction between Antonio Conte and himself that earned both managers a red card from the referee.
The Blues had controlled the game for the most part, but they only managed to earn one point as a result of Harry Kane’s equaliser in the 95th minute. However, when Tuchel and Conte shook hands after the final whistle, a fracas ensued.
Tuchel revealed what had transpired to the press, saying: “Well, I thought when you shake hands you look into each other’s eyes and Antonio had a different opinion, so it was emotional. He was happy when they equalised and it got a bit heated, but nothing big.”
After having it confirmed during the interview that Conte and he both received straight red cards for the incident at the end of the game, Chelsea’s manager, Tuchel, stated: “I think it was not necessary, but I think a lot of things were not necessary so another poor decision from the referee today.”
