April 27, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Under-20 national football team, the Flying Eagles, are set to play two friendly matches this week as part of their preparations for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina.
The games will take place at the FIFA Goal Project Pitch, Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, and will serve as an opportunity for the team to build chemistry and assess their readiness for the tournament.
Following their third-place finish at the 2023 Africa U-20 Championship, which secured their spot at the World Cup, the team has resumed training ahead of the competition. These games will be their first team-bonding fixtures since returning to camp, and they will face two academies in the upcoming friendlies.
The Flying Eagles, who have never won the global age-range tournament, have been drawn in Group D alongside Brazil, Italy, and the Dominican Republic. Invited foreign-based players, including Arsenal’s Joel Ideho, are expected to join the home-based players in camp ahead of the World Cup, as the team looks to build on their previous success and make a strong showing at the competition.
