May 29, (THEWILL) – As ticketing troubles caused the build-up to the season’s UEFA Champions League final to devolve into turmoil, Liverpool fans attempting to get into the Champions League final were locked out of the stadium and tear-gassed by French police.
A UEFA statement was issued immediately concerning this and to effect a delay to kickoff. It read: “For security reasons, the match has been delayed by 15 minutes.”
Over 50,000 Reds fans are expected to have flocked to Paris to soak up the atmosphere ahead of their club’s third UCL final in four years. They are taking on La Liga champions Real Madrid, a team they lost to in the 2017/2018 final.
According to the French news agency RMC Sport, a number of fans without tickets attempted to gain entry to the stadium and could have been the reason the French police resorted to tear-gas use.
