November 18, (THEWILL) — Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, on Tuesday, presided over the formal swearing-in of Mrs Elsie Anietie Peters as the new Head of Civil Service, saying that the appointment was a decisive step toward revitalising the state’s administrative structure.
The ceremony, held at the Banquet Hall of Government House, drew top government functionaries, senior civil servants, traditional leaders, and dignitaries who gathered to witness the transition of leadership at the helm of the civil service.
In his remarks, Governor Eno commended Mrs Peters for her sterling service record and expressed confidence that her wealth of administrative and security-intelligence experience would strengthen the operational efficiency of the civil service.
Mrs Peters, an indigene of Ikot Akpandem in Eket Local Government Area, brings more than two decades of distinguished public service to the office. Her rise through the ranks has been marked by a reputation for excellence, discipline, and professionalism.
She holds advanced degrees, including a Master of Science in Public Order and Information Management, a Master’s in Public Administration, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Sociology and Anthropology, qualifications that complement her extensive training in intelligence analysis, crime prevention, leadership, and security management both locally and internationally.
Before her appointment, she served as Permanent Secretary in the Special Services Department in the Governor’s Office, where she coordinated sensitive security operations, supervised intelligence assessments, and represented Akwa Ibom at top-level federal security meetings.
Her contributions to capacity building in the civil service are widely acknowledged, having trained hundreds of officers in security administration, ethics, and leadership. Her impressive profile is further highlighted by numerous awards, including the Adamawa State NYSC Honours Award and recognitions for service delivery and punctuality.
Speaking earlier, Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, said Peters’ swearing-in reaffirms the administration’s commitment to positioning the civil service for greater professionalism and improved productivity.
In her acceptance remarks, Mrs Peters pledged to uphold the values of diligence, integrity, and accountability, assuring that she would work collaboratively with all stakeholders to enhance service delivery and promote a more efficient civil service.
The event concluded with congratulatory messages from officials and guests who expressed optimism that her tenure would usher in a new phase of innovation and disciplined administrative leadership in Akwa Ibom State.
