January 27, (THEWILL) – Amad Diallo, a winger for Manchester United, is set to join Rangers on loan before the January transfer window closes on Monday night.

The Gers’ loan of the youngster will not include a buy option at the end of the six-month period.

Diallo is seen as a promising young player, as evidenced by United’s willingness to pay up to £37.5 million to buy him from Atalanta in January. He has only made one senior appearance this season since returning from injury in early October.

This month, the youngster was set for a loan move to obtain much-needed senior playing time and experience.

A move to the Championship was discussed, and he appeared to be just days away from joining United teammates Tahith Chong and Teden Mengi at Birmingham. Despite ongoing negotiations, the teams were unable to complete the transaction.

Derby reportedly indicated interest, although Wayne Rooney later ruled out a move to the Rams, while there were also rumours of a move to Nottingham Forest, where James Garner has been a regular starter for the previous year.

Diallo has scored once in nine senior appearances for United. He will join a Rangers team that is on track to defend their Scottish Premiership championship and potentially offer European action in the Europa League knockout stages next month.
