Hamilton, who made his F1 debut in 2007, said he never expected to have any supporters beyond his parents.
Despite enduring one of his worst seasons in 2022, finishing the year without a Grand Prix victory for the first time in his career and finishing in sixth place overall, Hamilton remained positive and focused on the moments of success he did experience.
He stated, “When we got our first fifth, it felt like a win. When we got our first fourth, it felt like a win. When we got our first podium, it felt like a win, and those second places felt as if we really achieved something, so I’ll just hold on to those.”
Max Verstappen won the Drivers’ Championship as Hamilton retired from the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi. Despite the challenging year, Hamilton praised the unity of his team and said, “there have been lots of pluses” in 2022.
