January 06, (THEWILL) – Hajiya Maryam Sanusi, one of the wives of former Emir of Kano and former Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has written a lengthy letter to the recently crowned Miss Nigeria, Shatu Garko.
In the letter, Hajiya Maryam admonished the beauty queen to use her reign wisely and speak up about the insecurity in the Northern part of Nigeria.
According to her, providence has given her a strong voice that can be heard and used to bring together other anguished women and men who can unite to fight against lawlessness in the country, most especially in the Northern part of Nigeria.
She encouraged her to use her beauty to speak against the ills in the north. She should use her portfolio to spread awareness and gather aid for northern Nigeria as young beggers are turning into refugees.
She should appeal for aid and assistance for displaced people who are fleeing from oppression and cruelty.
Shatu was told to speak against injustice and lawlessness. Most especially for her northern sisters, mothers, fathers and brothers who watch helplessly while evil men enter villages to gang rape women, minors in the presence of their husbands, fathers and brothers.
Adding that it is not possible to be counted as good people without speaking out ” to stand by and watch an injustice without protest is to be part of perpetuating that injustice” she stated.
Hajiya Maryam Sanusi stressed that country farmers are losing their means of livelihood, mothers are broken because their children are snatched from the street and taken away, never to be heard of again.
Even when ransom is demanded and paid, only lifeless corpses are returned to their parents that is why Shatu Garko should speak out.
The amiable woman added that she was crying as she was writing the letter. She recalled the anguish of some victims such as Amina who was raped infront of her father. Halima, Atika and Mario who were burnt to death.
She advised the beauty queen to be respectful to all and be grateful to God. She should hold tight to her values and principles, the beautiful teachings and traditions of her religion which will be her guiding light.
She warned her of the many temptations coming her way in terms of propagating or advertising things or ideas that are not acceptable to her religion, traditions and principles. She encouraged her to say no and admonished her to embrace the five daily prayers of her religion which will be her anchor.
