However, the victory was soiled by more disciplinary problems as the match ended with both teams reduced to nine men, with Mexico’s Gerardo Arteaga and Sergino Dest of the USMNT sent off for violent conduct in the 85th minute. It was further evidence of the intensity of the encounter.
