December 19, (THEWILL) – The United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) wrapped up a solid 2021 with a 1-0 friendly win over 10-man Bosnia-Herzegovina on Sunday, with Cole Bassett scoring a last-gasp winner on his debut.
In their final match of 2021, the USMNT extended their unbeaten streak to four games and made it 17 wins in the calendar year.
In the 89th minute, Colorado Rapids midfielder Bassett swooped on a rebound after Bosnia goalkeeper Nikola Cetkovic was unable to stop a Jonathan Gomez’s shot.
American forward Jordan Morris had the best chance to open the scoring earlier in the first half, but Cetkovic saved his header with his outstretched leg in the 31st minute.
Then, in the 40th minute, Bosnian’s Amar Begic received a straight red card for a harsh challenge on Kellyn Acosta, reducing the visitors to ten men.
With players like Weston McKennie, Zack Steffen, and Christian Pulisic unavailable, USA head coach Gregg Berhalter chose a mostly domestic-based group and they held their own to deliver for the North Americans.
