March 24, (THEWILL) – The Interim Head Coach of the United States Men’s National Team, Anthony Hudson, has confirmed that he has held talks with Folarin Balogun, a forward currently owned by Arsenal, regarding his international future.
Balogun, who is cap-tied to England, is exploring the possibility of switching his allegiance to the United States, as he is not currently in the plans of Three Lions Manager, Gareth Southgate. Balogun was recently spotted in Florida, where the United States squad is training for their upcoming CONCACAF Nations League matches against Grenada and El Salvador.
Hudson stated that he had spoken with the 21-year-old, adding that it had been a good opportunity to discuss the national team’s program and identity.
Balogun has been in fantastic form this season, scoring 17 Ligue 1 goals for Stade de Reims, the club he is currently on loan to. This has led to interest from several clubs, including national teams, that he is eligible to play for the United States, who are keen to add him to their squad.
Balogun is eligible to play for the United States because he was born in New York and has previously played for the country’s U18 team, although he can also represent Nigeria through his parents.
