May 02, (THEWILL) – Valencia have dismissed rumours that they have agreed to sell striker Carlos Soler to Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
According to Spanish publication AS, the two clubs had reached an official agreement worth roughly €20 million, with personal details also finalised and it was now just a matter of waiting for Barcelona to take some salary off their books.
However, Valencia was promptly alerted to the story, and they wasted no time in issuing a statement denouncing it as false.
A formal statement from the club read: “In response to a story published this Monday, in Spanish newspaper, Diario AS, Valencia CF deny the existence of any agreement -or any ongoing negotiation- with FC Barcelona for the transfer of Carlos Soler.
“The club is currently in an open negotiation process with the player and his agents to extend his contract with Valencia CF.”
Indeed, Barcelona are on the lookout for a new forward this summer and have a variety of options, while they wait to see how much money they can free up to do transfer business in the summer.
A deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland is becoming increasingly doubtful, with Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski now said to be the preferred target.
The German side is desperate to keep hold of Lewandowski, who is open to extending his time in Bavaria provided the proper contract offer is made, and a number of players have been mentioned as prospective replacements if Barcelona also miss out on the Pole.
Many players have been suggested, including Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku, Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, and Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak.
